Trauma is what happens inside of us in the absence of a compassionate witness to our suffering. It is a chronic state of disconnection and disrupts the discernment that comes from our own inner Wisdom.
Whatever else trauma might be, it is a spiritual wound.
Trauma-Informed Spiritual Direction (TISD) is an embodied practice grounded in contemplative curiosity and heart-courageous compassion, a turning toward our suffering. It is a specialized lens of spiritual direction that seeks to establish, cultivate, and restore safety and connection to the strained felt sense within one’s Self and our relationships with others, Spirit, and the planet through trauma-informed spiritual practices.
Drawing from the deep wells of the Wisdom Traditions and modern neuroscience, it is a supported journey toward satori (inner awakening), samadhi (integration, wholeness), shanti (inner peace), shalom (communal peace rooted in justice), and salaam (freedom from harm).

The Apprenticeship in a Trauma-Informed Scope of Practice (ATISP) is a partnership of support to integrate a trauma-informed perspective into your professional scope of practice and to develop your inner resources of self-care and self-regulation. The ATISP is designed to:
METHODS OF THE APPRENTICESHIP
After an Exploratory Session, the ATISP is individually tailored to your learning goals in blocks of 5 or 10 sessions.
The mix of content, supervision, consultation, and spiritual direction adjusts to each apprentice and may be revised.
Topics generally include the neurobiology of safety, connection, & social engagement, applied polyvagal theory, somatic internal family systems, attachment theory, and positive neuroplasticity integrated with the Wisdom Traditions.
